This online course provides discussion activities which are “wrapped around” existing material created by the University of South Florida. The discussion areas and course assignments focus on: knowledge regarding current research; the Bio-Psycho-Social Model with practice applications in case studies; knowledge and application of the Stages of Change in treating clients with co-occurring disorders; components of an integrated/collaborative treatment program; application of course material to current program or practice, and online resources available on co-occurring disorders. The text for this course is Substance Abuse Treatment for Persons with Co-Occurring Disorders, TIP 42, SAMHSA/CSAT.
Students will have the opportunity to assess their own levels of competency in working with co-occuring disorder clients and discuss a plan for professional development in this area.
