Addiction Prevention

1. Addiction Prevention

Addiction Prevention
Overview

Prevention has become a science in itself, with much credit attributed to the works of Catalano & Hawkins. Their research validated the practice of prevention and continues to create opportunities for the field to expand. Evidenced – based prevention initiatives are rapidly being called upon to replace programs that provided no evidence of substance abuse prevention effectiveness. As more knowledge is gained about efficacy and effectiveness of prevention and behavioral health promotion, it is vital that information is available to prevention service providers across the country. Communities now require and deserve effective prevention programs, current knowledge and education dissemination assistance.

The art of prevention seeks to equip youth with skills to cope with the stresses in their lives, to empower communities to take a proactive stance to assure safety for its residents.
