The Evidence Based Practice Summit scheduled for September 19 in Richmond HAS BEEN POSTPONED .

WATCH FOR ANNOUNCMENTS. This event will be rescheduled for sometime in 2007.

The EBP Summit is a one-day event co-sponsored by the Virginia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services, Office of Substance Abuse Services and the
Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center.

Greater emphasis is being placed on the use of treatment
practices that have been tested and shown by research to be effective. However, implementing new evidence-based practices into an agency for the treatment of substance use disorders is a challenging endeavor.

DMHMRSAS-OSAS and The Mid-Atlantic ATTC are holding this one day event to convene the substance abuse and mental health state and local leadership for the purpose of facilitating system wide implementation of EBPs. Participants will examine issues about and explore answers to the following questions:

  • What is an evidence-based practice?
  • What does the research say about the implementation of these practices?
  • What difficulties are encountered?
  • What does it cost?
  • What are the effects on staff workloads and morale?
  • What role do supervisors and managers?
  • What are the benefits to clients and families?
