This catalog is published as a service to professionals in the field of substance abuse and those interested in the field who are looking for academic opportunities in the State of Maryland. The Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Mid-Atlantic ATTC), housed at Virginia Commonwealth University, is one of thirteen regional centers created by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to bring people and ideas together across the nation. The Mid-Atlantic ATTC is made up of initiatives in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia and Maryland. Our mission is the advancement and education of addiction treatment professionals. Your professional advancement is supported by our goal to use addiction treatment knowledge effectively in education and practice. This catalog has been compiled to help you meet your needs in increasing your professional competence, locating courses for recertification, and earning your degree, certification, or professional license.
The state government in Maryland is currently reviewing requirements for substance abuse professionals. It is projected that, as requirements for counselors increase, the need for courses will increase. This catalog can assist you in locating courses which will benefit you.
The Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Mid-Atlantic ATTC)
Throughout the region, the Mid-Atlantic ATTC is influencing the practice of addiction counseling by advancing education, training and professional development in substance abuse services. It accomplishes its goals through
- Systematic transfer of knowledge from research to application
- Broad dissemination of information through inter-organizational networks
- Regional collaboration in educational and professional development
- Development and delivery of curricula for academic and continuing education credit.
Systematic Transfer Of Knowledge
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC has developed and is operationalizing its strategic, organizational learning plan for comprehensive knowledge transfer across the region. The strategy connects regional needs in academic credentialing, professional training, and development with organizational resources that can meet those needs. The strategy accounts for learner variables that impact what is learned and how it is learned, such as widespread capabilities in technology and current knowledge-levels.
Broad Dissemination Of Information
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC develops and maintains an infrastructure of educational, governmental and professional organizations. It has created the Consortia of Higher Education in three states composed of colleges and universities, and the Consortium of Substance Addiction Organizations (CSAO), a consortium of Virginia addiction treatment and prevention groups. These groups provide a wide network to facilitate dissemination.
Regional Collaboration
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC allies Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia and Maryland to fund the dissemination and transfer of knowledge through professional development conferences, seminars and workshops in the Mid-Atlantic region. It also partners to develop regional goals and objectives for an effective development strategy.
Development and Delivery of Curricula
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC incorporates state-of-the-art research into its graduate- and postgraduate-level curricula which is delivered in multidisciplinary academic programs at a number of colleges and universities across the region, on the World Wide Web, and at professional conferences.
