MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING

Motivational Interviewing
In 1998, the Mid-Atlantic ATTC established a Center of Excellence in Motivational Interviewing, and since then has provided resources and training to interested clinicians, researchers, and educators in our region and elsewhere.

A few of our efforts are highlighted here.

ONLINE COURSES

Access ED
is the The Mid-Atlantic ATTCs center for online learning. Course topics are catagorized in a series format. The first course in each series is intended as an introduction to the particular topic. Subsequent courses are directed to those students who have ta ken the introductory courses and/or students with more experience in the topic.

ADOLESCENT RESOURCES

Adolescent Website
We envision a society in which high-quality services for alcohol and drug problems, and meaningful opportunities to connect with the community are widely available and where adolescent treatment is recognized as a specialized field of expertise.

THE VIRGINIA SUMMER INSTITUTE for ADDICTION STUDIES

The Virginia Summer Institute for Addiction Studies (VSIAS) is in its fifth year of operations!  Grown from a 3-day mini-pilot-institute in 2002 to an all-week event, featuring nationally known presenters, current topics, and attracting 682 participants, presenters, and exhibitors in 2004; 839 in 2005.  VSIAS is truly a collaborative venture---see "Sponsors" for a listing of the many organizations who contribute time, energy, wisdom, and resources.

Blending Initiative

Harnessing the skills, resources, and knowledge of two Federal agencies to facilitate moving important scientific findings into mainstream addiction treatment practice is the goal of the NIDA/SAMHSA-ATTC Blending Initiative. Developed in 2001 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), this project is designed to meld science and practice together to improve substance use disorder treatment.
